A Measured but Meaningful Bipartisan Support for Romania on Capitol Hill
During the AUSA Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C., the President of the Romanian American Business Council (RABC), Stefan A. Minovici, met with Congressman Tom Suozzi (D–NY) and Congressman Mike Turner (R–OH), the two Co-Chairs of the Romanian Caucus in the U.S. Congress.
Discussions addressed critical issues impacting the U.S.–Romania Strategic Partnership, including the recent withdrawal of U.S. troops from Romania, the partial recalibration of American military engagement in Eastern Europe, and Romania’s role in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine once hostilities initiated by Russia come to an end.
While bipartisan interest in maintaining Romania’s strategic importance remains strong, RABC acknowledges that relations with the Trump administration have been strained following the recent Romanian elections and certain public remarks made by Romanian politicians that were perceived as offensive toward President Trump and his allies.
Nevertheless, these conversations reaffirmed that the United States continues to view Romania as a critical partner in Black Sea security, NATO operations, and defense innovation. RABC remains committed to fostering constructive dialogue and to helping restore full confidence and collaboration between Bucharest and Washington.
